ALTEK invented the dross press in the early 1990s. Following the acquisition of the TARDIS dross press business in 2009, the two technologies were combined to produce the TARDIS Generation II Dross Press range we see today. Worldwide dross press references for ALTEK now total over 550, it has been proven to be the best technology for recovering aluminium units from dross and is the most widely used dross processing technology in the Aluminium Industry.
The Dross Press works on the principle of compressing and cooling dross as quickly as possible with its patented press head cooling technology, fume extraction systems and other special technical features. This preserves valuable aluminium which would otherwise be lost to oxidation (1% loss per minute). This benefit comes in two forms; in-house drain and secondary recovery.
TARDIS Gen II Dross Presses are powered by reliable, low maintenance hydraulic power packs. Advanced electrical controls allow for full automation of the machine, operational versatility and a user friendly interface. The press structure is significantly stronger and durable compared with earlier ALTEK models to provide longevity in the tough working environment of an aluminium cast house. There are a number of different TARDIS Gen II models with over 40 pan set designs to suit almost any configuration of furnace size, sill height, dross type and dross production. This includes for black dross as well as white dross.

Consequently, ALTEK’s EMS can be installed on the bottom, side or back of almost any type of furnace size or shape, and is capable of stirring molten aluminium through all refractory types and thicknesses (currently up to 750mm). ALTEK also design movement and lifting systems which allow one inductor to travel between multiple furnaces for both bottom and side mounted installations.
